UPTOWNARTWERX by Charlie Vaughn Jr.
As A native of the Uptown/Hollygrove area in New Orleans, he was always fascinated by comic strips, cartoons & album covers at an early age. His parents kept him & his brother busy with drawings . Charlie eventually developed A passion for art throughout his formative years in school.
By the early 1980's ,HIP HOP would become the cultured "art form" that would change his outlook on life as he knew it.
With A dose of street culture, improvisation & rhythm
....taking cues from the East coast b-boy imagery fused with A New Orleans vibe led him to create his own style of work.
After graduating from College,Charlie would later develop an underground following by doing various ,fliers, backdrops, album covers ,book covers ,T-shirts ,murals & logo's for many local artists during the 1990's spanning from E.R.C, Black Menace, CashMoney records,No Limit records to the late Soulja Slim.
As the clientele grew ,so did his imagination, dabbling in
TV, radio, music ( even did an EP ).Artistically ,Charlie earned his "stripes" at Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World & Whaler Customs.
From 1998-2009 Charlie Co-founded & lead the spoken word group POZAZZ productions as A major influence in poetry UNTIL August 2005. Hurricane Katrina would change his world. The storm had Charlie & his mother displaced & his extensive music, book & ART work was destroyed.
Down but not out...Charlie moved to Atlanta Ga. & had to re-build his skills & confidence. Now focusing on the art & business aspect by creating UPTOWNARTWERX ,....Charlie Vaughn Jr. is BACK in NEW ORLEANS and has been teaching art at Clark Preparatory high school in the Treme area since 2013 . He's poised & ready to take any & everyone into his world...
